Common Sense
by: Thomas Paine
A single tri-fold pamphlet held the power to transform an unorganized rebellion into one single focused movement toward a common goal; independence. This pamphlet changed the revolution for the better. Thomas Paine and immigrant from Britain writes this piece of literature on January 1776. This pamphlet gave the independence enough momentum so that it could push forward and succeed. Thomas Paine came to the colonies with help of Benjamin Franklin. Common sense was a form of guide for independence. This provided the revolutionists with the tools and hype and was a passionate argument for independence. Unlike other pieces of the time, Common Sense gave reason and support to the idea of independence. This pamphlet published 9 months after the legendary battles at Lexington and Concord. 120,000 copies in only 3 months!
